Arjun Sarja on Dhruva Sarja’s Martin vs Rajinikanth’s Vettaiyan: 'No plans to change release date'
Filmmaker-actor Arjun Sarja is eagerly anticipating the release of his nephew Dhruva Sarja’s highly awaited film Martin.
Vettaiyan and Martin
Arjun Sarja is quite thrilled about his nephew Dhruva Sarja's upcoming movie, Martin. He also addressed the daunting challenge the movie faces at the Tamil Nadu box office, as it is set to release soon after Superstar Rajinikanth's Vettaiyan.
While Vettaiyan will hit the screens on October 10, Martin will arrive in cinemas on October 11. Acknowledging that it’s a significant challenge, Arjun confirmed that there was no question of changing the release date now. He explained that Martin is a "pan-India" release, being launched across the country.
"It's a big release (Vettaiyan), but we planned this (Martin) long before that. We could have considered changing the release date if this film was just coming out in a single language. It's multilingual, and the producers have planned its release across the country. Also, it involves a lot of business considerations. It's a huge process. I believe after watching Rajini sir's movie, people will also enjoy this film," Arjun told the media.
Lyca Productions surprised everyone by announcing their intention to release Vettaiyan on October 10, forcing other producers to reshuffle their release plans. Earlier, Tamil star Suriya confirmed that his highly anticipated movie, Kanguva, would not release on October 10 as previously announced , paving the way for Vettaiyan to enjoy a larger screen share in Tamil Nadu.
Suriya reasoned that considering Rajinikanth's legacy, it didn't feel right to go against the movie. While Suriya’s fans were upset with this decision, the trade community was pleased, as such a box office clash could have resulted in losses for all the stakeholders involved.
Martin is a big step up for Dhruva Sarja as he aims to ride the new "pan-India" wave. Arjun has penned the story of Martin, while it’s helmed by A. P. Arjun. The movie revolves around an Indian prisoner locked up in a Pakistani jail, promising high-octane action sequences and a generous dose of chest-thumping patriotism.
