Box office clash between Animal and Sam Bahadur
It was the clash of two big films at the box office this Friday (December 1). Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal locked horns with the Vicky Kaushal starrer Sam Bahadur and now the verdict is out. Despite Vicky’s film receiving decent reviews, it is Ranbir’s movie that has already won this battle one-sided.
Talking about Animal, the film’s opening day collections have already said to have surpassed the openings of movies like Pathaan and Gadar 2. The Sandeep Reddy Vanga directorial has reportedly earned Rs 61 crore on its opening day. According to a news report in Sacnilk, the film has collected Rs 50 crore from the Hindi belt and Rs 10 crore from its Telugu belt. Furthermore, the Tamil version of the film earned Rs 40 lakh while the Kannada belt garnered Rs 9 lakh. Animal earned around Rs 1 lakh from its Malayalam belt.
Now, talking about Sam Bahadur, the movie inevitably finds a tough competition with Animal. According to a news report in Sacnilk, the movie has minted Rs 5.50 crore on its opening day. It is obviously extremely lower than Animal which also had an added advantage of being released in regional languages in addition to the excessive hype. The overall occupancy rate of the Meghna Gulzar directorial on Friday was 29.18%. Film analyst Taran Adarsh had earlier tweeted, “#SamBahadur Fri / Day 1 at national chains… Update: 7 pm… #PVRInox: ₹ 2.80 cr #Cinepolis: ₹ 60 lacs Total: ₹ 3.40 cr.”
Animal explores the complex father-son relationship. A son who has been vying for the attention of his father his entire life is thrust to the dark side. What follows is a web of crime and bloodbath.
Sam Bahadur is a tribute to India’s first field marshal Sam Manekshaw. The movie traces his achievements in leading India to victory in several wars. It also gives a glimpse into some aspects of his personal life.
