Actor Prashanth, who has played a key role in 2024's most-awaited movie, The Greatest Of All Time, is now busy promoting his solo lead movie, Andhagan. He has made an intriguing pitch for the movie, stating, "Andhagan is a remade film, not a remake." Technically, Prashanth is incorrect because "remade" is the past participle form of the verb "remake."
In Prashanth's defence, he seems to be suggesting a deeper level of interpretation of the original film. By saying "Andhagan is a remade, not a remake," he implies that while the film is based on Andhadhun, it has undergone significant changes in its adaptation. This could include alterations to the story, characters, setting, or tone, giving it a distinct identity and feel.
Andhagan has been in the making for a while now. The film was announced soon after the success of Andhadhun in 2018. It has already been remade in Telugu as Maestro (2021) and in Malayalam as Bhramam (2021). Neither of the remakes was able to recreate the success of the original Hindi movie.
However, Prashanth seems confident about Andhagan, suggesting that his father Thiagarajan, who is also the director and producer of the film, has scaled up the production to its highest level.
"The main reason we remade Andhadhun was every little thing has a meaning in this movie. And it had a solid screenplay. Appa (Thiagarajan) adapted it to suit the tastes of Tamil audiences. It may have been remade in multiple languages already, but the way Appa has made this film, including the star cast and production value, he has mounted it on the maximum scale that this film would require," he added.
Andhagan is set to arrive in cinemas on August 15.
