The Sivakarthikeyan starrer Amaran has been a roaring success ever since it hit the big screens. While the makers have already made a massive profit within two weeks of its release, it seems the distributors are not ready to let go of the film for its digital release.

The Tamil Nadu Film Exhibitors Association recently wrote a letter to producer Kamal Haasan and Red Giants Productions, requesting an extension of the theatrical run of the film and a delay in its digital release.

Tamil Nadu Film Exhibitors Association's request to postpone the OTT release of Amaran

In a letter addressed to Kamal Haasan’s Raaj Kamal International Films, Sivakarthikeyan, and Red Giants Movies, the General Secretary of the Tamil Nadu Film Exhibitors Association, R. Pannerselvam, extended hearty congratulations on the blockbuster success of Amaran. He urged the producers to delay the digital release by at least eight weeks after its theatrical debut, citing the film’s exceptional performance in cinemas. Pannerselvam expressed confidence that such a move would not only amplify the movie's box-office success but also set a positive precedent for the industry.

The letter read, "We would like to congratulate you on the blockbuster success of the film Amaran, which is having a phenomenal run in theatres across the state as well as outside Tamil Nadu. Your film has once again proved the true power of good content that brings hordes of family audiences to the cinemas. It has vindicated the time-tested theory that no success is as sweet for the film fraternity as much as a theatrical success.”

He further stated, "In the same spirit, we would like to request you to postpone the digital release of the blockbuster movie Amaran to at least eight weeks post-theatrical release to honor the excellent run it is having in theatres. As veterans of the trade, we believe you would take a favorable decision in the best interest of the film as well as the industry as a whole to extend the theatrical exclusivity of the film. This would sweeten the box-office success of the film, set an example for future films, and boost the trade. Expecting a positive decision from your end. Thanking you."

    Amaran's OTT deal

As reported earlier, the film’s digital rights were purchased by Netflix for a whopping ₹60 crore. With the new request proposed by the association, the makers might extend the theatrical run of the film from a four-week window to eight weeks.

Amaran has so far earned approximately ₹250 crore in just 12 days since its release and continues its dream theatrical run. Directed by Rajkumar Periasamy, the movie stars Sivakarthikeyan and Sai Pallavi and narrates the poignant and brave story of the late Major Mukund Varadarajan.
