Amaran: Kamal Haasan reveals REAL reason behind producing Sivakarthikeyan starrer; 'Other films were fictional but this film is...'
Kamal Haasan and Sivakarthikeyan speak about the journey of making the upcoming war biopic of the late Major Mukund Varadarajan, Amaran.
Kamal Haasan about Amaran
Sivakarthikeyan’s most anticipated Diwali release, Amaran, is gearing up for its grand theatrical debut. As the release date approaches, the makers of the film have been moving forward with their promotional activities. In the latest development, they unveiled a new interview video titled 'Amaran An Introduction EP - 1'. This video features the cast and crew, including leading man Sivakarthikeyan, female lead Sai Pallavi, director Rajkumar Periyasamy, producer and actor Ulaganayagan Kamal Haasan, and Major Mukund Varadarajan’s wife, Indhu Rebecca Varghese, sharing the stage.
Team of Amaran talks about the journey
The whole team sat down for a lively conversation about how the film’s journey began, highlighting key revelations about the movie. When asked why he came on board as the producer of the film, Kamal Haasan revealed that Amaran is based on a true story, unlike the other films he has produced before, which were fictional.
The actor said, "Kadamai Kanniyam Kattuppadu, Kuruthipunal, and Sathya (films produced by Kamal Haasan) are fictional stories, but Amaran is based on a true story. Since it is a real event, we couldn't alter the flow of the story. It's up to the audience to accept it as it is. We even explained the climax to Mukund's wife beforehand."
He also mentioned that the film highlights the brave story of another woman—Major Mukund Varadarajan’s wife, Indhu Rebecca Varghese, and how she has stood strong despite the tragedy that struck her.
Sivakarthikeyan says the story chose him
Leading man Sivakarthikeyan shared that he believes the story of Amaran chose him, rather than the other way around. "I believe I didn't choose this story; this story chose me. To me, Major Mukund Varadarajan is a superhero, and I have had the honor of telling his story to the audience. We work on every film with utmost sincerity, but Amaran is different. Beyond showcasing sincerity in the craft, I also feel a responsibility to present the story well. I hope I have done justice to it," the actor revealed.
About Amaran
Amaran is based on the true story of Major Mukund Varadarajan, an Ashok Chakra recipient who was martyred during the Qazipathri Operation in Shopian in 2014. The film is reportedly inspired by the non-fiction book India’s Most Fearless: True Stories of Modern Military Heroes.
Netflix has secured the streaming rights for the film, which will be available on the platform after its theatrical release. Bankrolled by Kamal Haasan’s Raaj Kamal Films International, the movie also features music by G.V. Prakash Kumar, cinematography by Ch. Sai, and editing by R. Kalaivanan.
Amaran is set to release on October 31, 2024.
