Sivakarthikeyan-starrer war biopic Amaran opened to a massive reception and has become one of the most popular Diwali releases from the South. Directed by Rajkumar Periasamy, Amaran features Sivakarthikeyan in the role of the late Major Mukund Varadarajan, with Sai Pallavi portraying Mukund’s wife, Indhu Rebecca Varghese. The film received rave reviews from both audiences and critics, and has already become the third-highest openers from Kollywood this year. Here’s how much the film earned on its opening day:

According to industry tracker Sacnilk, Amaran opened to record-breaking numbers, grossing approximately Rs 21.65 crore in India, with over Rs 17 crore generated from its Tamil version alone. This is also the first ever for a Sivakarthikeyan film to earn the highest opening spot. Language-wise, the film’s Telugu version performed unexpectedly well, earning around Rs 40 lakh, while the Hindi, Kannada, and Malayalam versions collected Rs 15 lakh, Rs 2 lakh, and Rs 1 lakh, respectively. Amaran surpassed Dhanush's Raayan, which previously secured Rs 13.65 crore on its opening day, placing Amaran just behind the top two openers from Kollywood—Vijay's The GOAT and Rajinikanth's Vettiayan.

Globally, Amaran reportedly collected close to Rs 35 crore on its opening day. The film enjoyed an impressive 77.94% overall occupancy in Tamil Nadu theaters. Based on these opening numbers, Sivakarthikeyan’s Amaran is likely to outperform other Diwali releases.

Amaran received widespread praise from audiences and critics, who lauded the filmmakers for making a well-crafted war film that honors the brave legacy of Major Mukund Varadarajan, who was posthumously awarded the Ashoka Chakra.

    About Amaran

Based on the non-fiction book India’s Most Fearless: True Stories of Modern Military Heroes, Amaran narrates the poignant story of Major Mukund Varadarajan, a commissioned officer in the Indian Army’s Rajput Regiment who was martyred during the Qazipathri Operation in Shopian in 2014.

    Sai Pallavi in Amaran

In addition to the lead cast, the film stars Bhuvan Arora, Rahul Bose, Lallu, Shreekumar, Shyam Mohan, Ajaey Naga Raaman, Mir Salman, Gaurav Venkatesh, and Abhinav Raj in key roles.

While Sai Pallavi’s Malayalam accent and some of her character’s dialogue delivery met with criticism, the film overall received positive reviews and is expected to perform strongly through the weekend.
