It would be an understatement to say that Telugu superstar Allu Arjun's upcoming movie, Pushpa 2: The Rule, is one of the most awaited films of 2024. Originally, Pushpa 2 was set to release worldwide on August 15, coinciding with Independence Day.

This holiday was an ideal date for a film of such scale, size, and popularity. Given that Pushpa 2 is eagerly awaited not just in South India, but across the country, the movie would have greatly benefitted from an extended weekend. However, director-writer Sukumar needed more time to complete the film, leading to its delay.

Despite the change, the producers of Pushpa 2 remain confident, choosing December 6, a non-holiday date, for the release. Some sources suggest that it was Allu Arjun's decision to avoid clashing with other filmmakers who had scheduled their films for the holiday season. He believes that his movies, particularly Pushpa 2, don't need a holiday to fill theatres nationwide.

A lot is riding on the success of Pushpa 2. Trade sources estimate the movie's theatrical value to be over Rs 1000 crore, making it one of the biggest blockbusters ever made in India. Director SS Rajamouli’s films have proven that grossing Rs 100 crore or Rs 200 crore on day one is possible, and Pushpa 2 is expected to push the boundaries even further.

"WW Breakeven Gross - Rs ₹1200Cr Apx! Have to Surpass #RRR & #KGF2 to earn Profits for Buyers! The Team is aiming to Create New History, to become the 1st film to enter ₹300Cr Club for the 1st Day at the Global Boxoffice!!" tweeted AndhraBoxOffice.Com.

It seems the producers have significantly increased the movie's production scale and budget following the massive success of Pushpa: The Rise in 2021. Reportedly, the film has cost Rs 500 crore, making it the most expensive project in Allu Arjun’s career so far.
