Alia Bhatt on her planned debut Balika Vadhu with Ranbir Kapoor: ‘We did costume rehearsals; I danced on Dola Re Dola’
Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor, who are happily married now, were supposed to start their Bollywood journeys together many years ago with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film Balika Vadhu.
Alia Bhatt is all set to share the silver screen for the very first time with her actor husband Ranbir Kapoor in Ayan Mukerji’s much awaited film Brahmāstra: Part One – Shiva. But as most of us know, this wasn’t the first project for which the two were considered. Many years ago, much before Alia had even began her journey in Bollywood, she had auditioned for Sanjay Leela Bhansali ’s film Black. While it did not work out, he had planned another project titled Balika Vadhu with her and Ranbir. Sadly, it never happened.
In a recent chat with Mid Day, Alia remembered, “When he decided to make I think I was about nine. And he said maybe I'll wait a couple of years and make it when you are like a little older but then I think he dropped the idea altogether, which still today he says I shouldn't have dropped the idea. Because it went on to become such a popular show. 'I shouldn't have listened to everybody, I should have made it.”
Alia went on to share, “We did costume rehearsals, look-tests. I went ahead and danced on Dola re dola and all of that. Ghoom phirke, I don’t know what happened.” Bhansali decided not to go ahead with the film and Alia went back to school. But she never stopped dreaming about working with the ace filmmaker and finally got the chance in the critically acclaimed Gangubai Kathiawadi, which arrived in theatres earlier this year.
Interestingly, during the look test of Balika Vadhu, Alia had to keep her head on Ranbir’s shoulder and she was too shy. Well, the two are now happily married and expecting their first child together. Now that’s what a happily ever after looks like!
