Akshay Kumar to essay Jaswant Singh Gill who saved 65 miners in the 1989 Raniganj coal mine tragedy

Akshay Kumar has added another ambitious project based on a real-life incident on his long list of exciting future line-ups. The superstar will be playing the former chief mining engineer Jaswant Singh Gill who had shown remarkable courage and rescued 65 miners during the 1989 Raniganj coal mine tragedy. The movie has been titled Capsule Gill tentatively for now.

According to a news report in Peeping Moon, Akshay Kumar will step into the shoes of Gill who was front lining the rescue operation during the incident wherein 64 miners were trapped into a flooded coal mine. The report added that director Tinu Suresh Desai who had also directed Akshay’s Rustom will be helming this project. The movie will be bankrolled by Ajay Kapoor of Kyta Productions and Vashu Bhagnani of Pooja Entertainment .

Akshay Kumar will reportedly begin shooting for the same by the end of 2022 in Amritsar. The news report had further stated that filmmaker Tinu Suresh Desai had been working on the inspirational story of Jaswant Singh Gill for the past five years. The movie will showcase the brave act of the former chief mining engineer who had put his life to risk by going down a borehole in a capsule to rescue around 65 trapped miners during the Raniganj coal mine tragedy.

Jaswant Singh Gill had also refused to listen to the authorities who were against this act and had offered his timely help to the miners. The director is also communicating with Jaswant’s son Dr Sarvpreet Singh Gill for more information about the incident. Furthermore Desai has also acquired the rights to make the film on Gill’s life.

However, now an official confirmation is awaited by Akshay Kumar or the makers of the project. Akshay will be seen in a list of anticipated projects like Ram Setu , Prithviraj Chauhan, Raksha Bandhan , Selfiee , Bade Miyan Chote Miyan and more. The actor has also been roped in for the Hindi remake of Soorarai Pottru .
