After Salman Khan and Sivakarthikeyan, AR Murugadoss set to direct Karthi in his next
After a four-year break, filmmaker AR Murugadoss is back, this time with an ambitious slate of projects and high-profile stars.
AR Murugadoss
Filmmaker AR Murugadoss has kept a low profile for the past four years, with his last release, Darbar, hitting screens in 2020. That film, his first collaboration with superstar Rajinikanth, arrived with high expectations but ultimately disappointed critics and underperformed at the box office.
Since then, Murugadoss has remained away from the spotlight. It appears, however, that he used this downtime to meticulously plan his comeback with a series of big-ticket films. The director seems to be signing some of the industry’s biggest stars at an impressive pace, seemingly intent on making up for lost time.
The latest buzz indicates that Murugadoss has signed actor Karthi for his next movie, with the project reportedly backed by Suriya’s 2D Entertainment. If the rumours are true, this film will mark Murugadoss' first collaboration with Karthi, and it’s notable that Murugadoss was instrumental in shaping Suriya’s stardom with Ghajini (2005). The two later collaborated on 7 Aum Arivu, though the film did not fare as well critically or commercially. Now, their upcoming project would mark their first partnership as producer and director.
Suriya himself recently found success as a producer with Meiyazhagan, a feel-good drama starring Karthi that resonated with audiences and garnered even more positive attention after its recent streaming release.
Meanwhile, Murugadoss is simultaneously juggling two other high-profile projects. One is SK23, a project starring Sivakarthikeyan that has been generating excitement. The other is Sikandar, a Hindi film starring Bollywood superstar Salman Khan, marking Murugadoss’ return to Hindi cinema after eight years.
Murugadoss’s strategic comeback, featuring such a stellar cast lineup, is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated returns in Indian cinema.
