Congratulations are in order for Tamil star Dhanush's latest movie, Raayan. The film's screenplay has been selected to be placed in the library of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. "#Raayan screenplay has been selected to be a part of the library of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences," said Sun Pictures, the producers of Raayan.

It's definitely an honour considering that Raayan is only Dhanush's second movie that he wrote and directed.

Typically, the Academy acquires scripts of films that have been released and gained significant recognition or are considered historically important. In some cases, screenwriters or production companies can directly submit screenplays for consideration. However, there's no guarantee of acceptance.

The inclusion in the Oscars Library is a sure sign of the screenplay's cultural and social impact. The library's collection focuses on a wide range of films, not just award-winning or blockbuster productions. It's also worth noting that inclusion in the Academy's library is an honour but doesn't guarantee any awards or recognition.

Last year, another Tamil movie, Parking, written and directed by debutant Ramkumar Balakrishnan, received this honour.

Raayan is a special movie in Dhanush's career as it's his 50th movie. To make it memorable, he wrote, directed, and played a lead role in it.

Raayan follows four siblings who were abandoned by their parents at a very young age. The responsibility to feed and protect his young siblings falls on Raayan, and he dedicates his life to that cause.

"If Raayan was just about Raayan, it might have been a big dud because we have seen this story a million times. Dhanush knows it, and he cleverly overcomes the fatigue of familiarity in the narrative by simply giving more screen time to other characters," reads a part of Desimartini's 3-star rating.

Raayan has already grossed more than Rs 100 crore from its worldwide ticket sales.
