2018Movie Box Office: The Tovino Thomas starrer is on its way to becoming the second blockbuster of 2023 for Malayalam cinema

The disaster movie 2018 hit theaters last Friday and has received critical and commercial success, the movie based on the 2018 Kerala floods grossed over 18 crores worldwide at the end of its opening weekend.

At the Kerala box office, on its opening day, the movie grossed around 1.8 crores but thanks to positive reactions the second-day and third-day collections have gone up, with the movie collecting 3.2 crores on day 2 and 4.1 crores on day 3.

Except for the blockbuster horror-comedy Romanchan, which grossed a whopping 64 crores at the box office, it had been a dull year for Malayalam cinema but no it is clear, that there is a second blockbuster in the making.

The movie is directed by Jude Anthany Joseph. It boasts an ensemble cast including Tovino Thomas, Kunchako Boban, Asif Ali, Aparna Balamurali, Lal, Siddique, Indrans, Tanvi Ram, and Vineeth Sreenivasan.

The movie was officially announced in 2018 but had a troubled production due to the global pandemic. 2018 is produced by Venu Kunnappilly, C. K. Padma Kumar, and Anto Joseph under the banner of Kavya Film Company in association with PK Prime Production.

The cinematography for the movie was handled by Akhil George, the editing by Chaman Chakko, and finally, Nobin Paul was in charge of the music.

2023 looks like the year of Tovino Thomas, the actor has a few other big projects lined up for the year. The first is Nadikar Thilakam, which is directed by Jean Paul Lal and plot details about the movie are under wraps but we do know that Tovino will be sharing the screen with Soubin Shahir.

Then we have Ajayante Randam Moshanam a period-action movie in which Tovino will be playing three roles. The movie will be set in three different time periods - 1900, 1950, and 1990 in Kerala.

2018 is currently running in theaters.
