Zoya Akhtar reveals how Salim-Javed split affected both families - 'So there was a certain...'

    Director Zoya Akhtar talked about the split between Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar and how it affected both their families.

    Namrata Rao-directed docuseries Angry Young Men, depicting the lives of Bollywood film writers Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar, has released on Amazon Prime Video. Producer of the series Zoya Akhtar is busy promoting the release of the series. In an interview, filmmaker Zoya shed light on the effect of the Salim-Javed split on both their families, and how the warmth and affection shared between the families has stayed over time.

    During an interview with The Indian Express, Zoya was asked if she ever felt the effects of the Salim-Javed split in her family. The filmmaker revealed that of course because she and her brother, filmmaker Farhan Akhtar were very close with Salim Khan’s kids (Salman Khan, Arbaaz Khan, Sohail Khan, Alvira Khan and Arpita Khan).

    She added, “So there was a certain okay what has happened and that sort of things have changed in a way.” Zoya revealed that there was a distance that happened but the feelings towards each other never changed.

    Speaking about the dynamics of the relationships among the kids in both families, Zoya said that they (the kids of the Khan family) were never different from her, or Farhan and that affection has always been the same. She added that the feeling of comfort and warmth has always stayed.

    Talking further about the relationship the kids in both families shared, Zoya said that because Salman was older, she was closer to Alvira and Sohail as they were closer in age. “We hung around, we played a lot but those were really good and fun times,” she said.

    For those unaware, Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar were one of the most popular writer duos of Bollywood films in the 70s. They wrote popular Bollywood films like Deewaar, Sholay, Don, Trishul, Andaz, Naam, Zanjeer, and Kranti, among others. It is because of their stories and films that actor Amitabh Bachchan got the title, ‘Angry Young Man of Bollywood’ which also inspired the title of the docuseries. The docuseries released on Amazon Prime Video on August 20.
