    Dangal actress Zaira Wasim recently took to social media to reveal that her father Zahid Wasim breathed his last on May 28. Sharing the news on social media, the young actress urged her followers to remember him in their prayers.

    Taking to Instagram, Zaira said that her father passed away. She wrote on Instagram stories, “My father, Zahid Wasim, has passed away. Please remember him in your prayers and ask Allah to forgive his shortcomings, make his grave peaceful, protect him from its torment, ease his journey from here ahead and grant him the highest level of Jannah and Maghrirah.”

    Along with the Instagram story, Zaira dedicated a heartfelt post to him by sharing a throwback picture of herself, giving her father a peck on his cheek. The caption says, “Verily the eyes shed tears and the heart grieves, but we will not say except that which is pleasing to our Lord. My father, Zahid Wasim, has passed away. Please remember him in your prayers and ask Allah to forgive his shortcomings, make his grave peaceful, protect him from its torment, ease his journey from here ahead. May he be called to an easy accounting and be granted the highest level of Jannah and Maghrirah. Indeed, we belong to Allah, and Indeed, to Him, we shall return.”

    Earlier this year, the actress also mourned the death of her Dangal co-star Suhani Bhatnagar on social media.

    Zaira Wasim’s acting journey

    Zaira Wasim gained national fame after her portrayal of young Geeta Phogat in Nitesh Tiwari’s film Dangal. The film also starred Aamir Khan, Fatima Sana Shaikh and Sanya Malhotra. Suhani played the role of young Babita in the film.

    The actress later featured in Advait Chandan’s highly successful film Secret Superstar where Zaira played the role of a young Muslim girl who uploads her singing videos on social media while wearing a burqa. The coming-of-age film was lauded for its heartfelt storyline and nuanced portrayal of human emotions. The film also starred Meher Vij and Aamir Khan.

    Zaira’s last film was Shonali Bose’s The Sky Is Pink, starring Farhan Akhtar, Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Rohit Saraf. Zaira played the role of a young girl who was battling a terminal disease. After the release of the film, Zaira quit acting at the age of 18.
