Following a viral video which shows him whacking a selfie-seeking fan, the veteran actor Nana Patekar caught himself at the receiving end of criticism. Although director Anil Sharma clarified that the actor did not slay anyone, the actor opened up about the incident in a video message. He said that he mistook the fan for his crew member during the rehearsal of a shot from the upcoming film, Journey. He apologised for his act and said he would never do anything like this to his fans.
In the video, Nana issued a clarification on the viral video saying that the sequence was a part of the film he was shooting for but did not know the boy he slapped was not part of the crew. “I have never said no to anybody for a photo. I don't do this. This happened by mistake. If there is some misunderstanding, please forgive me. I will never do anything like this," he said.
The video in question is from Varanasi where the 72-year-old actor is shooting with filmmaker Anil Sharma. In the 10-second clip, he is seen getting ready to shoot a scene when a fan comes close to him and tries to click a selfie. A visibly upset Nana Patekar smacked the boy on the back of his head and a guard grabbed the young fan by his neck and escorts him away. Nana also clarified, “I was going to call him back but he ran away. Maybe his friend shot the video.”
Earlier, Anil told India Today, “Nana is being projected as a negative and rude actor on social media, which is completely wrong. Through Aaj Tak, I would request that the fans understand the truth of this video. This is a shot from the film. Nana has not hit anyone.” Meanwhile, Nana was last seen in Vivek Agnihotri’s The Vaccine War after a long gap. He is set to appear in another film, Journey.
