For those unaware, Kajol, who was promoting her upcoming courtroom drama, The Trial, spoke about women empowerment in the country. While making her point, she said, “Change, especially in a country like India, is slow. It is very very slow. Because we are steeped in our traditions and steeped in our thought processes and, of course, it has to do with education. You have political leaders who do not have an educational system background. I'm sorry but I'm going to go out and say that. I'm being ruled by leaders, so many of them, who do not have that viewpoint, which I think education does give you, at least the chance to look out for a different viewpoint.”
Moments later, a section of social media users trolled her for her bold statement. One Twitter user wrote, “Kajol is a school dropout Her husband is a college dropout And Bollywood is one of the most undereducated industry hence they make such silly movies without head & tail. But since most of them are schooled in very posh schools they speak fluently in English and many people think they are well educated as for many of us in India, English fluency is equal to education.”
Meanwhile, Kajol will be next seen in The Trial, an adaptation of the American courtroom drama The Good Wife. The show also stars actor Jisshu Sengupta in the role of her husband. Directed by Suparn Verma, the series is set to arrive on Disney+Hotstar on July 14, 2023.
