When veteran actor Shatrughan Sinha spoke about teh #MeToo movement and called himself fortunate
Actor and Politician Shatrughan Sinha had once while commenting on the #MeToo movement said he was glad that he wasn’t named in any such controversy. The movement which started in the West but also took Bollywood by storm in 2018 had many women coming forward and sharing stories of being sexually abuse by powerful men in the industry.
Shatrughan Sinha at a book launch event in 2019 had commented on #MeToo and said ‘behind a successful man's fall is a woman’. He did clarify that he didn’t mean to belittle the movement and called the women coming forward courageous also saying that he listens to his wife Poonam Sinha and takes her with him as a shield. He further called his wife a ‘goddess’ and his ‘everything’ at the event.
"Today is the time of #MeToo, and there shouldn't be any shame or hesitation to say that behind a successful man's fall is a woman. Behind the troubles and infamy of successful men, there have been mostly women that I've seen in this movement," the veteran actor had said.
"I really call myself fortunate that in today's times, tamam harkate karne ke bawajood (despite everything that I have done), my name hasn't come out in the #MeToo movement. Hence, I listen to my wife and often take her as a shield with me so that even if there's nothing, I can show that I am happily married, my life is good," he added.
The #MeToo movement started in 2018 and meant the death of quite a few careers in Bollywood. While there were rare instances where certain #MeToo allegations were proven to be a hoax which also hurt the movement but it have far and wide reaching consequences too for the perpetrators.
While the #MeToo movement saw widespread support on social media, it did fizzle out as quickly as it had started.
