When Bipasha Basu was left embarrassed as Amitabh Bachchan asked her 'Why are you not working?'

Bipasha Basu has given some rather powerful and memorable performances in Bollywood in her career but the actress is reaping the fruits of her success by allowing herself some down time. The lady definitely knows her mind and is confident about her choices but she had once revealed a few years ago that she was left embarrassed when mega-star Amitabh Bachchan once quizzed her about why she’s not been working after marriage.

In an interview with Rajeev Masand, Bipasha recalled meeting Amitabh Bachchan at his Diwali bash along with husband Karan Singh Grover and said, “It was so embarrassing. Last Diwali, when we went for Mr Bachchan's party, Mr Bachchan said, ‘What are you doing? Why are you not working? Do you know people miss you? And then he was looking at Karan.”

The actress was promoting her web series Dangerous in 2020 when she made the revelation which was her first appearance on screen five years after the film Alone in 2015. Karan who was with Bipasha during the interview revealed how everyone was looking at him as if he had something to do with Bipasha’s decision to stay away from films.

Karan had added to Bipasha’s point and further revealed,“He then looked at me with a look that it is because of me that she is not working. Then everyone ends up looking at me, saying ‘Why don’t you ask her?’ And I was like, ‘You think I have any say in anything? Like I can control anything?’”

Bipasha took a break from the movies after tying the knot in 2016 with actor Karan Singh Grover. While the infamous perception that offers dry up for actresses post marriage, it was not the case with the actress at all. The actress did get offers but none that excited her enough to come back. Bipasha chose to stay away from films as she felt the need for a break after having worked constantly since she was 15 years old.

The Raaz actress had once revealed during another interview that she had mostly been getting offers for supernatural thrillers which she didn’t want to take up. A biopic that she was a part off was put on hold after Salman Khan ’s Sultan was released because her film was too similar to the superstar’s project. She quit another thriller due to a producer’s unprofessional behaviour and finally did return to acting with a web series.
