Watch: Vinesh Phogat breaks down as she arrives in Delhi after being disqualified in Paris Olympics

Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan, in his superhit film Dangal had said an iconic line, ‘Maari chhori chhoron se kam hai kay’. Ironically, the film was based on the real-life wrestling family the Phogats. This year, Vinesh Phogat proved that the aforementioned line was not just meant for the film but also in real life. This year’s Olympics saw Vinesh Phogat not just beating the world champion Yui Susaki, but also creating a record to get the guaranteed silver medal registered on her name.

But, in a shockingly sudden and unexpected turn of events, the Olympics officials landed up disqualifying Vinesh Phogat from competing for the gold medal in the final match, because she was 100 grams overweight! This really shocked not just India, but also the entire world of sports. In no time, there were many messages from many dignified personalities (including India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi) that, no matter she did not bag the silver, she was still a winner for everyone!

After the final decision by the concerned Olympics officials was not in her favour, a visibly heartbroken Vinesh Phogat arrived in India today. She landed at the Indira Gandhi International Airport. She was received by her fellow wrestlers Bajrang Punia and Sakshi Malik. There were also many fans who had come to meet Vinesh Phogat.

Vinesh Phogat, who was standing inside the vehicle was seen accepting garlands and bouquets from the hordes of fans and media personnel who had come to meet her. Seeing all the love which was being poured on her from everyone (and also with the heart-breaking feeling of being disqualified from the silver medal), Vinesh just could not stop her tears. Offering her solace were her pillars of strength in the form of Sakshi Malik and Bajrang Punia.

Upon her arrival, there were many fans who took to social media and extended their support towards Vinesh Phogat, who has now announced her retirement from the world of wrestling.
