Producer KE Gnanavel Raja is quite upbeat about his next production venture, Thangalaan. He expressed his admiration for Chiyaan Vikram's dedication to his craft and seemed thrilled with how the movie has turned out.
Thangalaan is one of the big-budget Tamil movies set to hit the screens this year. Gnanavel Raja revealed that the final budget for Thangalaan was 30 percent more than initially planned. In fact, director Pa Ranjith informed the producer that the budget was likely to overshoot and even offered to rework the production plan to adjust to the original budget.
Gnanavel Raja, in turn, gave Ranjith full freedom to make the movie without any compromises stemming from budget restrictions. After watching Thangalaan, he noted that he was happy and satisfied with his decision.
"I am very happy with the output of Thangalaan. I have already seen the copy. We are planning for an August release. I am surprised by the level of effort that Vikram has put in for this movie. He has given his heart and soul and done everything possible to make Ranjith's vision come true. I was really shocked after watching it," said Gnanavel Raja, sharing his review of Thangalaan.
The producer also claimed that Thangalaan will be celebrated as "the best film" in Vikram's career.
Thangalaan, written and directed by Ranjith, is set against the backdrop of British India. The period drama is believed to be the most expensive film in Vikram's career.
Thangalaan follows the struggles of a tribe fighting the imperial forces to protect their rights, land, water, and gold. The film explores the bloody history of the Kolar gold fields. Besides Vikram, the film also stars Malavika Mohanan, Pasupathy, and Daniel Caltagirone, among others.
The trailer for Thangalaan will be released on July 10, and it will open in cinemas worldwide on August 15.
