Vidaamuyarchi: Ajith’s film based on this Hollywood film? Here’s what we know

Thala Ajith’s eagerly anticipated action thriller Vidaamuyarchi has been on fans’ watch list for a very long time. Although the makers are yet to wrap up filming and enter its post-production stage, there have been a few reports surrounding the plot of the film. 

Vidaamuyarchi based on Hollywood film Breakdown?

As per the latest reports, the Ajith-starrer is reportedly the official remake of the 1997 cult classic Hollywood film Breakdown. The 1997 road action thriller revolves around a couple who find themselves in trouble when their car breaks down in a deserted region and the wife disappears. The movie then unfolds the husband's frantic search for his missing wife along with a chain of crimes.  

Earlier, Ajith’s manager Suresh Chandra had revealed that the Tamil superstar will be playing a doting husband and that the movie will narrate the mission taken up by Ajith’s character to save his wife, who is allegedly kidnapped when they go on a road trip in Azerbaijan.

Kollywood stars’ love for Hollywood remakes

This isn’t the first time a Hollywood film has been remade in Tamil cinema. Earlier in 2023, Vijay and Lokesh Kanagaraj’s super hit film Leo was said to be a remake of the 2005 crime thriller A History of Violence. It looks like Tamil superstars and directors are on a spree of remaking Hollywood films and making Tamil adaptations of the movies. Although Leo received flak for its remake, we are yet to see what alterations Magizh Thirumeni has brought in the upcoming Ajith-starrer Vidaamuyarchi.

Vidaamuyarchi posters

The makers have been lately dropping many poster updates. Recently, the team unveiled not one, but two second-look posters which impressed the fans who were disappointed by the underwhelming first-look poster. The new posters featured Ajith donning a chic brown jacket paired with his classic salt-and-pepper look. The racy and adventurous look was shared with a tagline “Efforts Never Fail.” With the team shooting the last leg of the film, fans can expect the Ajith and Trisha-starrer action thriller this Deepawali. 

Besides the lead cast, the film also features Arjun Sarja, Regina Cassandra, and Arav in other key roles. Anirudh Ravichander has composed the songs and original score for the movie, while Nirav Shah is the cinematographer. The movie’s OTT rights have been acquired by Netflix.
