Speaking to Fever FM, director Vasan Bala addressed the low box office performance of Alia Bhatt starrer Jigra and said it is his responsibility to deliver the box office. It has become Alia's lowest box office opener after Highway. Reacting to the same, Bala said, "She is the first choice for everyone. She could have been on any other film set, but Jigra, during that time. So she has to make that choice. And she has trusted me with that choice. So it is my responsibility to deliver box office because we are in the business of filmmaking also."

He further added, "So which is why I need to analyse. Kuch toh hua hai na (Something has happened, right)? Something has happened where people have stayed away, something that they have not bought, something that they didn't feel the need to come to the theatre. If at all any other actor decides to give their time, his or her, then you know, make it worth it.”

    More about Jigra

For those unaware, Alia Bhatt and Vedang Raina starrer Jigra released on October 11 and became the second-lowest opener of Alia’s career with a box office collection of Rs 4.55 crore. The lowest opener is Alia’s second film, Highway, directed by Imtiaz Ali and released in 2014.

Vasan Bala’s Jigra revolves around the lives of sibling duo Satya (Alia Bhatt) and Ankur (Vedang Raina). What will Satya do when Ankur gets imprisoned in a foreign country forms the plotline of the film. The film also features Manoj Pahwa and Vivek Gomber in pivotal roles.
