Varun Dhawan was led to question his value as an actor due to Karan Johar; is all well between the ‘student’ and his Bollywood mentor?
Varun Dhawan began his journey with a Karan Johar film and believes that the latter is his mentor. But the actor was not cast in many of KJo’s recent films. Here’s how it affected him.
Hunk Varun Dhawan has emerged to be one of the most bankable stars of Bollywood today and one reason why fans love him is that he’s worked hard to get where he is. Even though he’s the son of popular director David Dhawan, and began his journey with Karan Johar ’s Student of the Year, he has made a mark in the industry by himself. Well, KJo has been Varun’s mentor since the start, but there was a time that Varun was not exactly the poster boy of all major Dharma films.
On the upcoming episode of Koffee With Karan 7 , the filmmaker will ask the actor about not being cast in recent Dharma films. To this, Varun will reply, “It definitely made me think, am I slipping in my game? Have I not created that right body of work or image as an actor for Karan to consider me in his films? Sometimes it was also along the lines of why Karan thinks I can’t do these roles. For me, it is more in terms of introspection of my competencies.”
Varun went on to add that Karan’s selection does not make him feel envious or defeated. Instead, the actor takes it as a chance to analyze and improve himself. Well, Varun’s last release Jugjugg Jeeyo was backed by Karan’s Dharma Productions so clearly there are no grudges between the two. Their comedy emerged as a super hit and also did well at the box office, apart from receiving rage reviews.
For this season of Koffee With Karan, Varun will be gracing Karan’s koffee couch with his on-screen father Anil Kapoor. It’s going to be epic!
