The overuse of technology has become a cause of concern for many, including Bollywood celebrities. Speaking about the ‘overuse of technology’, actor-turned-author Twinkle Khanna recalled an incident where she couldn’t stop looking at her phone, while attending her daughter Nitara’s concert in Notting Hill church.

Twinkle in her column for the Times of India recalled a recent incident, while highlighting the overconsumption of technology. She wrote, “Early this week, my younger one was playing in the school concert. I took my seat, and already bored, I pulled out my phone and automatically started obeying the God of minor distractions. Then, the timer I have recently started using to curb my screen time kicked in, and I had to put my phone away.”

The author went on to add about the experiences people can have if they start to look outside of the virtual world. She said the concert was held at the Notting Hill church and that she noticed details such as its high ceiling and the central aisle. “I watched the kids holding their violins horizontally and some even upside down. The music rising from the belly of the church to the gallery where I was sitting, euphonious, discordant, imperfectly marvellous, filled cavities inside me that I was unaware existed, like a high tide that floods seawater into sandy depressions,” she further said in the column.

Twinkle added that even mundane activities like a train ride can become a memorable experience if we pay close attention. She wrote that life has one finite resource — time, and therefore, we must find ways to draw boundaries where we allow information to flow in and when to stop consuming it after the requirement is fulfilled.

After quitting acting, Twinkle became an author and released her first book, Mrs Funnybones, in 2015. Later, she pursued a Masters in Fiction Writing from Goldsmiths, University of London.
