A slew of new movies have arrived on streaming platforms this week. If you are a fan of Tamil cinema, these films should be on your watchlist this weekend. Whether you're in the mood for a chilling horror-comedy, an action-packed thriller, or a thought-provoking drama, this list has something for everyone.

    Aranmanai 4:

Filmmaker-actor Sundar C's Aranmanai 4 is the biggest hit in Tamil cinema this year so far. The film arrived at a time when theatres and audiences were eagerly awaiting exciting new content on the big screen. Many highly-anticipated films had postponed their release due to the Lok Sabha elections, leading to a dry spell at the Tamil Nadu box office.

Aranmanai 4 provided much-needed relief to both stakeholders and audiences. Surprisingly, it garnered mostly positive response from critics and is arguably the most well-reviewed movie in the Aranmanai franchise. The good reviews and strong word-of-mouth helped the movie earn Rs 100 crore in ticket sales.

Sundar C uses the same template to retell the story with a new set of actors. Besides writing and directing, Sundar has also played the lead role. The film also stars Raashii Khanna and Tamannaah Bhatia in the lead roles.

Aranmanai 4 is streaming on Disney+Hoststar.

    Rasavathi:

Rasavathi, written and directed by Santhakumar, is an intriguing addition to the new releases. Known for delivering intense, medium-budget action dramas, Santhakumar's debut film Mounaguru set a trend in 2011. He continues his tradition of telling stories about reserved men who unearth their hidden potential to overcome challenges. Judging by the trailer, Rasavathi: The Alchemist seems to follow suit. Set against the backdrop of a picturesque hill station, the film revolves around Sadhasiva, played by Arjun Das. It delves into the concept of bravery and stars Tanya Ravichandran and Sujith Sankar alongside Das.

Rasavathi is streaming on Aha Tamil and Prime Video.

    PT Sir:

If you're looking for an easy-to-watch film with a message, PT Sir is the perfect choice. Based on the trailer, the movie appears to be a heartwarming yet thought-provoking drama that tackles societal double standards. It explores how sympathy is readily offered to victims, while survivors of sexual assault often face deep prejudice. The responsibility to restore balance in the soeciety falls on an ordinary PT Sir, played by Hiphop Tamizha Aadhi. Written and directed by Karthik Venugopalan, the film also stars Kashmira Pardeshi, Anikha Surendran, Prabhu, and Ilavarasu.

PT Sir is streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
