    The dynamic duo of Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao are the force behind Laapataa Ladies, India’s official entry to Oscars 2025. The former married couple still enjoy a good rapport and have decided to continue working on films together. Speaking about their relationship and their films, Aamir revealed that when he broke the news of quitting films to Kiran, the filmmaker burst out crying and said, “you are leaving us.”

    During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Aamir Khan was asked about his decision to quit films. Aamir revealed that when he broke the news to his ex-wife Kiran Rao, she burst out crying and said, “you are leaving us.” But Aamir explained to her that he is actually leaving films and will spend more time with his family.

    Speaking about his decision to quit films, Aamir revealed that he was going through a personal journey during the end of the Covid pandemic when he realised that he spent the bulk of his adulthood making films. He added that the realisation made him think that he has not spent enough time with his kids, siblings and family.

    Aamir stated that the realisation made him feel very guilty and he did not feel good about himself. He added that the emotional reaction to this made him think about quitting films. The actor revealed that he gathered around his family and revealed that he is quitting films and would be spending time with them.

    Speaking about his family’s reaction to his decision to quit films, Aamir revealed that his children Junaid and Ira helped him decide not to do so. He said that his son Junaid Khan sat him down and made him realise that he does not have to go from one extreme of doing films to another extreme of not doing any films and could think of a middle ground between all of this.

    Aamir Khan was last seen in Laal Singh Chaddha, while Kiran Rao’s directorial film Laapataa Ladies, starring Nitanshi Goel, Pratibha Ranta and Sparsh Shrivastava, was released in 2024.  The film was produced by Kiran Rao, Aamir Khan and Jyoti Deshpande.
