Taapsee Pannu like several other actresses in Bollywood has a background in modeling. However, unlike the others, there hasn’t been much talk about her modeling journey or the fact that she once participated in the coveted Miss India pageant in 2008.

The Looop Lapeta actress got talking about it in a recent interview and said she wasn’t ‘beautiful enough’ to have won the pageant and didn’t even make it to the top 10. She started out as a model on the 2008 MTV show Get Gorgeous only to follow it up with participating in Miss India.

Taapsee who once wanted to be a software engineer, however, turned to acting after a successful career as a model made her debut in 2010.

Asked about her Miss India journey Taapsee told Free Press Journal in an interview, “I did not make it to the top 10 (laughs). I was not beautiful enough to win, but I won the Miss Fresh Face and Miss Beautiful Skin titles.”

She went on to make her debut in film with the 2010 Telugu film Jhummandi Naadam and also acted in Tamil movies thereafter. Taapsee’s Bollywood debut came in 2013 with David Dhawan’s Chashme Baddoor .

Taapsee had around the time of her acting debut confessed in an interview that she grew tired of her career as a model and thus had turned to films to gain recognition.

After over a decade as an actress Taapsee today enjoys an enviable position in Bollywood and is one of the busiest actresses. She has also turned producer with her company Outsider Films and is backing the thriller Blurr as the maiden project in which she has a double role.
