Taapsee Pannu ’s sports biographical drama, Shabaash Mithu had a lot of expectations banking on it but alas! the film couldn’t perform well at the box office nor did it manage to impress the critics. However, amidst this, actress Swara Bhasker came to Taapsee’s defense recently when a Twitter user asked her to comment on the film being a box office flop. Swara was quick to retort by saying that a movie’s box office numbers do not determine its quality.
Swara Bhasker responded to the user stating some cult films were initially box office flops. The Veere Di Wedding actress stated, “I don’t believe that box office earnings are the sole determinant of the value of films.. Some now cult films were box office duds and some films no better than tripe have been hits. I loved the trailer of #shabashmithu and am catching it in theatres this week.” Take a look at her tweet.
Swara Bhasker and Taapsee Pannu share a close rapport with each other and often celebrate each other’s achievements. They have especially come to each other’s support during their occasional feud with actress Kangana Ranaut in the past. Meanwhile, talking about Shabaash Mithu, the movie has tanked badly at the box office and has not even managed to earn Rs 2 crore on its fourth day today (July 19).
The movie minted Rs 0.18 crore on its fourth day which witnessed a huge drop in its collections. As a result, the total box office collection of Shabaash Mithu now stands at Rs 1.75 crore. The movie had a very poor opening at Rs 0.40 crore. While the Taapsee Pannu starrer had seen a minor gain on its 3rd day, minting Rs 0.60 crore, it seems that the collections are going downhill again. The movie is based on the life of the Indian women’s cricket team captain, Mithali Raj .
