Malayalam star Suresh Gopi made history by becoming the first BJP candidate to win the MP seat from Thrissur. It's considered a political breakthrough for the party, which has consistently faced rejection by the populace of Kerala since its inception.

Suresh Gopi's victory took everyone by surprise, especially since the Congress-led UDF won 18 of the 20 Lok Sabha seats in Kerala. Basking in his success, Gopi thanked the 'people gods' for trusting him and giving him the opportunity to serve them.

However, Suresh Gopi seems to have no plans to quit movies to dedicate himself full-time to politics. He confirmed that he already has a few projects in the pipeline and looks forward to resuming his acting career once he settles into his role as an MP.

"The project that gives me goosebumps is bankrolled by Mammootty. It will go into production in August. Then, I will have Ottakkomban and three other projects under the banner of Sree Gokulam Movies," Suresh Gopi told Ashinet News.

Initially aligned with the Left-leaning political parties and to some extent with the Congress-led coalition in Kerala, Suresh Gopi changed his political leanings in 2016 after he was given a Rajya Sabha seat by the BJP.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Suresh Gopi contested on a BJP ticket from the Thrissur constituency and lost. However, in 2024, he emerged victorious from the same constituency, giving the BJP its first-ever win in Kerala.

Following his win, the who's who of Malayalam cinema, including Mohanlal and Mammootty, congratulated him.

Suresh Gopi continues to command a significant hold over the box office in Kerala. He mostly acts in low-budget movies that cater to family audiences. His recent movies Paappan and Garudan were hits at the box office.
