Subhash Ghai says new generation actors only concerned about personal branding and fees: 'They look like sabun tel waale log ...'
Filmmaker Subhash Ghai compared the new crop of actors to the stars from the 90s and before and said that the current geneartion is all about the money.
Filmmaker Subhash Ghai took a dig actor who are getting work in film projects based on their popularity on Instagram. The Taal director has compared the new generation of actors to those from the 90s and said that while the actors from two decades ago at least cared about the story, the new age actors are only concerned with making money.
Subhash Ghai who last directed Kartik Aaryan starrer Kaanchi in 2014, while speaking to Times of India during an interview was shocked to learn that actors are being given work in Bollywood based on how many followers they have. Terming both such actors and filmmakers as ‘bewakoof’, Subhash continued to add that actors now leave filmmakers hanging if they get a commercial to shoot.
"The actors of 90s still understand the importance of the story- be it SRK, Salman or Aamir. They want the job to be done well and they know that the money will follow. But today's generation wants the money to come first; they are just bothered about their personal branding and fees; they feel they have become big brands, they are surrounded by an entourage who even tells them to look left or right.. They look like sabun tel waale log jo apni shooting chhod ke ad karne ke liye chale jaate hain,” Subhash Ghai told the publication.
The filmmaker said that while social media is good exposure, one can’t access an actor’s talent or personality based on the number of followers they have there. He primarily placed the blame on directors and producers who allow casting in such a manner for their projects.
The filmmaker’s interview came as he celebrated 44 years of his production house Mukta Arts. Subhash Ghai's production banner has production some rather iconic films like Karz, Pardes, Ram Lakhan, Khalnayak, Taal among several others.
