Student of The Year turns 10: Karan Johar reveals why Alia, Sidharth, and Varun are closest other than his mother

Karan Johar ’s directorial Student Of The Year began as a ‘holiday film’ and went on to become one of the highest-grossing films of 2012. The film gave a launch pad to now Bollywood sensations Alia Bhatt , Sidharth Malhotra , and Varun Dhawan . As the movie turned 10 today, i.e October 19, 2022, the filmmaker penned a heartwarming note dedicated to three actors and the inseparable bonds between them.

Taking to his Instagram handle, Karan shared a video of himself speaking about Student of The Year while celebrating the ten years of the film. The video also contained a few behind-the-scenes from the movie along with the highlight sequences. Alongside, Karan wrote, “SOTY started off as me making a “holiday film”…. A film that certainly wasn’t intended to move any cinematic mountains but a film that was young, fun and entertaining … what I didn’t realise then that this film would give me so much more than memories or a commercial success … would give so much more than a film in my directorial archives… “

Further, the filmmaker spoke about his bond with Alia, Varun and Sidharth. He said that no single day goes without talking to the three actors whom he treat as children of his own. “this film gave me three of my most defining relationships … Sid, Varun and Alia went on to become my family…..besides my mom, they are the three people I think I talk to every single day…. I never knew way back then that I would have children of my own …but my first protective parental feeling was for all three of them… I love you SID! I love you VARUN and I love you ALIA( yes yes I know I am not supposed to keep saying it but what the heck love is love )… I say it to my kids and I want to say it to all 3 of you ….. love you to the moon and back ….,” he signed off.

Student Of The Year is the coming-of-age romantic comedy-drama film written by Rensil D'Silva and Niranjan Iyengar and produced by Hiroo Yash Johar and Gauri Khan under the banners of Dharma Productions and Red Chillies Entertainment. The film also stars Rishi Kapoor, Farida Jalal, Sana Saeed, Ronit Roy, and Ram Kapoor in supporting roles. The film talks about two friends who fall for the same girl in college. The film received mixed reviews from critics, but the performance of Alia, Sidharth, and Varun was praised. However, it received sharp criticism for its escapist story and screenplay.
