Sonakshi Sinha and Zaheer Iqbal: Everything to know about them, from their first meeting to their intimate wedding

Sonakshi Sinha and Zaheer Iqbal got married in an intimate civil wedding ceremony that was hosted at their house in Mumbai. The couple kept their wedding a secret until their audio wedding invite was leaked online. The newlywed couple has now opened up about their first meeting and the theme of their wedding.

When Sonakshi Sinha and Zaheer Iqbal first met

During a conversation with Bombay Times, Zaheer revealed that he met Sonakshi for the first time in Salman Khan’s house. He added that he did not see that she was there, and she did not know that he existed.

Zaheer added that they did not interact with each other a lot on their first meeting, but got to know each other on June 23, 2017, during the screening of the film Tubelight and its afterparty.

Talking about meeting Sonakshi’s parents to ask her hand in marriage, Zaheer said that he was nervous because until then he had never spoken one-on-one with Sonakshi's father, Shatrughan Sinha.

He added that after the talk, they became friends. After which Zaheer told him that he would be asking his daughter to marry him. Sonakshi added that when she told her father about Zaheer, he said, “Haan, maine padha that (I had read about the two of you in the news).” He added “You guys are grown ups. Jab miya biwi raazi toh kya karega kazi.”

Sonakshi also added that he got very emotional during the wedding ceremony, and she had to assure him that she is not going anywhere.

Speaking about their different cultures, Sonakshi said that the two are same at their core, as their parents have taught them to be good humans and to believe in God. She added that they have never had an argument on the topic of religion.

Revealing about their wedding, Sonakshi added that their families wanted it to be a grand affair, but the couple preferred a small wedding. She added that she and Zaheer planned the wedding entirely on their own.

The actress revealed that the wedding was planned in 25 days and that guests were invited only 15 days before the wedding. Sonakshi added that she wanted the event to reflect what the couple is about and for it to feel like a big party.

Speaking about her wedding outfit, Sonakshi revealed that she always wanted to wear a red saree on her wedding day. She said that she wanted to be comfortable, to be able to dance and have a good time. The actress exclaimed that wearing her mother’s saree and jewels felt just right.

Sonakshi and Zaheer got married on June 23 in a civil wedding ceremony, in the presence of friends and family. That was was followed by a grand celebration at Bastian, Mumbai.
