SJ Suryah's acting career is now going through a rewarding phase. He is being offered a variety of roles, from the textbook villain in a sci-fi thriller to a flamboyant gangster in a period drama, to a typical nice guy, and everything in between. He recently received an award for his performances in Mark Antony and Jigarthanda DoubleX; he played supporting roles in both movies, yet managed to leave a mark on the minds of audiences with his committed performance.

Speaking at the event, Suryah recalled that it has not been an easy journey for him to reach where he is today as an actor. He noted that he nurtured the dream of becoming a popular actor since he was 4 years old. To achieve that dream, he had to jump through a series of hoops.

Suryah was asked what he would tell director SJ Suryah, and he used the opportunity to announce that he would be directing a movie soon—but not for any other star.

"I used you (director SJ Suryah) to make New in 2004 and Anbe Aaruyire in 2005. I did Isai in 2015 to showcase my acting talent. I later let you take a long rest. Now, again I need your help. Just come when I summon you. Several stars will call you, but you should only respond to SJ Suryah. Now, the time has come for you to take SJ Suryah to the next level. Be ready, I will call you soon," said the actor, SJ Suryah.

Suryah made his directorial debut in 1999 with Vaali. Starring Ajith Kumar in a double role, the movie was a big commercial hit, inspiring remakes in other languages. Next, he helmed a romantic comedy titled Kushi (2000) with Thalapathy Vijay, which was also a runaway hit. At the height of his directorial career, he started tilting towards acting. Since 2005, he has been focused on cementing his career as an actor.
