Tamil star Sivakarthikeyan's upcoming movie Amaran is now in post-production, and the filmmakers seem to have zeroed in on a release date. The latest buzz is that the film will open in cinemas worldwide on September 27.

If true, Amaran will hit the screens just around the time of the Ganesh Chaturthi holiday. It will also be the second high-profile release in September for Tamil cinema after The Greatest of All Time. Starring Tamil superstar Thalapathy Vijay, The Greatest of All Time is set to hit the screens on September 5. The film, which is billed as a sci-fi thriller, will have almost four weeks to itself at the Tamil Nadu box office.

However, an official confirmation on the release date of Amaran is awaited.

Amaran is expected to elevate Sivakarthikeyan's career to another level. While he has done a slew of action movies, this film promises to show Sivakarthikeyan in a brand-new dimension. He has also gone to great lengths to look the part of an Indian army soldier.

Sivakarthikeyan underwent an impressive physical transformation to essay the role of Major Mukund Varadarajan. The film is inspired by the non-fiction book India's Most Fearless, which documents some of the most daring anti-terror operations carried out by the Indian army.

One of the chapters in the book details an operation led by Major Mukund Varadarajan in South Kashmir, during which he was killed.

Writer-director Rajkumar Periasamy noted that while the book inspired him to make this biopic film, it is not entirely based on it. Rajkumar mentioned that he did thorough research on Major Mukund Varadarajan's life and the security issues in Kashmir to write the film's screenplay.

Amaran is bankrolled by Kamal Haasan's Raaj Kamal Films International.
