Tamil star Simbu's next project, STR 50, was supposed to elevate his career to another level and make him a 'pan-Indian' sensation. However, despite the initial buzz, the film didn't go on the floors as expected, sparking speculations about the project being shelved.

Recently, however, art director S.S. Murthy rubbished the rumours and promised that STR 50 would be a trend-setting movie in the history of Indian cinema, even drawing a parallel with director S.S. Rajamouli's path-breaking movie Baahubali.

"A very big announcement will happen soon. We have already completed 70 percent of the pre-production work. It will give a fitting answer to all the naysayers, and people will understand why it took so long. It's a movie like Baahubali, mixing fantasy and action. It will be a very important movie in Indian cinema," said Murthy.

Recent reports also suggest that Simbu may take on the role of directing the movie. Early in his career, Simbu proved he was a multifaceted talent by writing and directing a few blockbuster movies. His last directorial outing was Vallavan, which came out in 2006. It's said that he might step into the director's shoes to ensure that his 50th film turns out to be memorable and successful.

At the moment, Simbu is busy shooting for director Mani Ratnam's upcoming movie, Thug Life. He is said to be playing the role of Tamil superstar Kamal Haasan's son in the movie.

The teaser that was released earlier revealed that Thug Life is set against a dystopian background, with Kamal playing the role of a seasoned gangster. The film is fast nearing completion and is expected to hit screens worldwide during the Christmas festival this year.
