For all those who had seen and loved Jim Sarbh’s Rocket Boys, which was from the stable of Siddharth Roy Kapur’s production house Roy Kapur Films, there is some really good news for you. The said production house in association with Trickitainment Media is now all set to make a biopic of an unsung hero named Sukumar Sen. They have even acquired the film making rights for the same.

For the unversed, Sukumar Sen happens to be what one would fondly call him as the ‘architect behind the country’s first general elections in 1951-52’. And it is the same elections, which had cemented India’s status as a newly minted independent democracy. Sukumar Sen also happens to be independent India's first Chief Election Commissioner.

Sukumar Sen, who happened to be a razor-sharp mathematician, eventually became a civil servant, who then had the biggest challenge of his career. The challenge was to carry out an execution of the entire process. And the time span given for the challenging task was a mere two years of our nation becoming a republic on January 26th, 1950. Readers may also know that, prior to Sukumar Sen, there was no other official from India who had ever before been confronted with a challenge of such a huge magnitude!

Needless to say, Sukumar Sen’s job was not at all easy. He had to run around the length and breadth of the country in order to organize the principal democratic exercise in the world, which measured three million square kilometres and included diverse terrains of deserts, mountains, and forests and many other things.

After all the hard work and sweat, Sukumar Sen was at last able to successfully carry out the herculean task! All of his and his team member’s incessant efforts resulted in around 60 percent of registered voters exercising their right to vote for the very first time! With this, India achieved a milestone of sorts by conducting its first ever general election.

The details of the cast have been kept under the warps so far. Watch this space for developments.
