'Should have been a theatre release' : Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra starrer Chamkila's teaser out, netizens react

The much-awaited teaser of the Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra starrer Amar Singh Chamkila has finally been released. The movie is based on the life of singer Amar Singh Chamkila who was known to be one of the most influential and successful artists in Punjab. Chamkila died only at the age of 27 after he and his wife Amarjot were assassinated by allegedly Sikh militants.

Talking about the same, the teaser begins with an announcer introducing Amar Singh Chamkila in front of the crowd. He is described as ‘the greatest singer of his time’ and ‘the highest-selling record artist in Punjab.’ However, soon it is mentioned how he died only at the age of 27 with the sounds of gunshot wounds in the background indicating how he was killed after being gunned down. We soon see Diljit Dosanjh as Chamkila wherein he can be seen sporting an intense expression and looks like he has got to the skin of the character perfectly. Take a look at the video.

The movie has been directed by Imtiaz Ali and the music has been composed by AR Rahman. With such a stellar combination, we are surely looking forward to the soundtracks of the same. Parineeti Chopra plays Amar Singh Chamkila’s wife Amarjot who was his singing partner and was also assassinated along with him. Reportedly both Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti have lent their vocals to the songs in the movie.

The movie will be released on the OTT streaming platform Netflix. Some netizens felt that it should have been released into the theatres. A comment said, “Should have been a theatre release” while another user stated, “It should be released in theatres.” A netizen added, “Imtiaz Ali and AR Rahman, deadly combo, what else one can ask for.” However, some users initially mistook the teaser for being a movie on the life of Punjabi singer and rapper Sidhu Moosewala.

Talking about Amar Singh Chamkila, he was one of the best live stage performers and bankable singers of Punjab. However, he was also very controversial for writing and singing songs on topics like drug abuse, extramarital affair, and drinking. He and his wife were shot down on March 8, 1988, in Mehsampur Punjab.
