The Mumbai Sessions Court has directed the Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) police station to investigate the allegations. Additional Sessions Judge NP Mehta said that there is a "prima facie cognizable offence" involving Shilpa, Raj, their company Satyug Gold Private Limited, and two directors and an employee. According to a PTI report, Judge Mehta has asked the police to file an FIR if any cognizable offence is found during the investigation.

The complaint demands the registration of an FIR against the accused for cheating, criminal breach of trust, and criminal conspiracy under the IPC, as well as provisions of the MPID Act. The court has instructed that if the investigation finds evidence of these offences, an FIR should be filed accordingly.

    What is the complaint?

Shilpa and Raj founded Satyug Gold Private Limited and launched a scheme in 2014 where investors paid upfront for gold at a discounted rate with the promise of receiving an agreed quantity of gold at the scheme's maturity.

The accuser claimed that he invested Rs 90 lakh in the scheme in 2014, with the assurance of receiving 5,000 grams of 24-carat gold after five years, by April 12, 2019. However, he did not receive the promised gold. Instead, the accused allegedly sent a post-dated cheque for Rs 90.38 lakh, which only covered the principal amount, without informing him.

As of January 21, 2020, the value of 5,000 grams of 24-carat gold was about Rs 2.25 crore.

Shilpa and Raj have not yet responded to the allegations.
