Shah Rukh Khan wins everyone’s hearts with his Namaskaar and Dhanyawaad at the 77th Locarno Film Festival

By now, Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s cupboards and showcases showcasing all his awards must be simply overflowing with the numerous awards that he has got till date. One of the most memorable awards of his career happens to be the one that he had received recently- the mega prestigious Pardo Alla Carriera award at the 77th Locarno Film Festival.

The said award was given to King Khan in lieu of his seamless contributions to the world of cinema. Besides the very presence of Shah Rukh Khan in the award function, what really enthralled the 8000 plus crowd, who had gathered at the venue (which was the spectacular Piazza Grande), was his heartfelt acceptance speech. The grand event also saw glimpses from many of his superhit films like Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Pathaan, Jawaan, DDLJ, 

Shah Rukh Khan, “Thank you all for welcoming me with such wide arms – wider than the ones I do on screen. It’s a very beautiful, very cultural, very artistic, and extremely vibrant city. So many people crammed into a little square. It’s just like being home in India”.

He added, “This award here, which, for the life of me, I’ve been trying… I can’t pronounce”. Jokingly saying that, he good-humouredly called it the ‘Leopard award for being the most awesome in the world, in the history of humility and kindness and goodness’!

Speaking about the art of cinema, Shah Rukh Khan said that ‘art was the act of affirming life above all as it transcended every man-made boundary into a space of liberation. He added that art did not need to be political, polemical, or even moralizing and that art and cinema only needed to express their truth from the heart!

Shah Rukh Khan, who was dressed in a ‘dressed-to-charm-and-kill’ black ensemble, went on to joke about his signature style of expressing love with his arms wide open! He mesmerised the already mesmerised crowd by saying that his open arm style has now become a part and parcel of his personality!

During his heart winning speech, there was a fan who ‘confessed’ her love for King Khan. To which, the ever-inimitable Shah Rukh Khan quickly replied, “I love you also. All dramatics continue after the serious speech”. Needless to say, this wise repartee (read ‘trademark repartee) earned a thunderous response in the form of claps and chuckles from the jam packed audiences who were present there!

Towards the end of his wonderful speech, the ‘Pathaan’ actor, yet again won everyone’s hearts by saying, “My day has been wonderful, the food has been nice, my Italian is improving, and so has my cooking. I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart and from India. Namaskaar and dhanyawaad. God bless you all.”

On the professional front, Shah Rukh Khan will now be seen in the most awaited film Tiger Vs Pathaan, which will also star the Bollywood superstar Salman Khan.
