The producers of the upcoming Telugu movie Saripodhaa Sanivaaram on Saturday unveiled a new teaser to commemorate the birthday of actor-director SJ Suryah. Starring Telugu star Nani in the lead, Saripodhaa Sanivaaram is written and directed by Vivek Athreya.
"Thank you prestigious @DVVMovies, extremely talented dir #vivekathreya garu, and super human being and super actor beloved @NameisNani garu for this wonderful movie…. #SaripodhaaSanivaaram SURE SHOT and thank you, team," SJ Suryah tweeted while expressing gratitude to the filmmakers for honouring him with a special teaser.
The new promo, titled "Not a Teaser," is dedicated entirely to the film's main antagonist, played by SJ Suryah. It seems Saripodhaa Sanivaaram is a period drama. At least, that's what we assume when the main villain slowly drives through a housing complex, terrorizing its residents, in his beat-up Maruti 800.
Nani plays the narrator in the teaser, introducing the megalomaniac villain. The hero tells us that there is a 'Narakasura' in the city, troubling common people. Then we see quick shots of Suryah indulging in unbridled police brutality. He seems to derive a kick from hurting people and being drunk on the power that comes with his uniform as one of the top police officers. Suryah's character seems to be the manifestation of pure evil, with no empathy or regard for other lives.
Typically, Suryah thrives in playing such dark roles. It's noteworthy that he gave a chilling performance as a serial killer in Spyder (2017), which overshadowed the towering stardom of Telugu superstar Mahesh Babu in the film. Judging from the promo, Suryah may again deliver one of the most memorable performances as an evil man.
And it falls on the shoulders of the hero, played by Nani, to join forces with the heroine, played by Priyanka Mohan, to stop the reign of terror. It's a classic good versus evil story, but knowing Vivek Athreya's filmography, he might just surprise us.
