Is Bhansali’s Heeramandi Season 2 in the making?
During a conversation with Bollywood Hungama, director Sanjay Leela Bhansali was asked if Season 2 of Heeramandi is in the works. The director first expressed gratitude to those who loved Season one but he said that whether Season 2 happens or not depends on Netflix - if they want to go ahead with it or not.
“They are the producers and the best producers I have ever worked with in 30 years. I keep telling them I’ve done some good karma to have had the chance to work with people like them. But the decision to do season two comes from them, not from me,” he explained.
Heeramandi Season 1 plot
Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar is a historical drama series based in Lahore during the British Raj, that follows the lives of courtesans and noblemen who spent their evenings in the lanes of Heeramandi. While portraying the lives of these courtesans, the narrative also showcases the struggle of the common people as they fight the Britishers in the hope of attaining freedom for the country.
The second season could focus more on the younger generation of these courtesans who use art and the power of culture to take the freedom movement forward. We are sure that Season two, if ever made, will be much grander and more glamorous.
Starring Richa Chadha, Manisha Koirala, Sanjeeda Shaikh, Sharmin Segal, Aditi Rao Hydari and Sonakshi Sinha, Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar premiered on Netflix on May 1.
