Saira Banu breaks silence over her divorce with AR Rahman as she reveals real reason; calls him 'gem of a person'

Academy and Grammy award-winning composer AR Rahman and his wife Saira Banu’s separation news sent shockwaves across the globe recently. Although the heartbreaking news saw the couple receiving support and strength from well-wishers, there were several media allegations suggesting that AR Rahman’s separation decision was linked to his bassist, Mohini Dey, who had also announced her divorce just hours before AR Rahman’s statement, fueling rumors of a connection between the two.

Later, the music maestro’s legal team came forward to quash the speculations and issued a notice to slanderers for creating baseless allegations that could tarnish the reputation of the composer.

Now, to put an end to all the speculations and rumors, AR Rahman’s wife, Saira Banu, has come forward to reveal the real reason behind their separation. In an audio clip, the composer’s wife called AR Rahman a gem of a person and revealed that she had been physically unwell for the past couple of months. Citing her health issues as the primary reason, she revealed that she is currently residing in Mumbai for her treatment and will return to Chennai. Saira also expressed her upset over the media reports speculating AR Rahman’s alleged link-up with fellow bassist Mohini Dey and called the rumors baseless. She requested the media community, particularly YouTubers, to stop spreading misinformation that could tarnish his reputation. Saira also revealed that the divorce has not been officially announced and that she will make a decision after returning to Chennai post-treatment.

Saira Banu reveals health issues as the reason behind separation from AR Rahman

She said, “I have been unwell for the past couple of months, and that's the reason I wanted to take a break from AR. But I would request the entire YouTube community and Tamil media to please not say anything bad against him. He is a gem of a person and the best man in the world. Yes, it’s just because of my health issues I had to leave Chennai. If I am not in Chennai, people will wonder where Saira is. And I am here in Mumbai and going ahead with my treatment. And this wouldn’t have been possible with AR’s busy schedules in Chennai, and I did not want to disturb anybody, neither my children nor him. But he is an amazing human being, and all I would request is please let him be who he is.”

She continued, “He is not linked with anyone. I trust him with my life. That’s how much I love him, and that’s how much he loves me. So I kindly request you to stop all the false allegations against him, and God bless. My sincere prayers are that we are left alone and given space at this moment. We have not officially announced anything yet. I will be coming back to Chennai, and please stop tarnishing his name. It’s absolutely rubbish, and he’s a gem of a person.”

AR Rahman and Saira Banu, who married in 1995, have three children together: Khatija, Raheema, and Ameen.
