Rs. 500 crores riding on Ranbir Kapoor as he returns after 4 years with Shamshera, Brahmastra; Will it pay off?
The stakes are higher as Ranbir Kapoor is coming with two major releases of the year-Shamshera and Brahmastra.
Ranbir Kapoor is currently busy promoting Shamshera.
Ranbir Kapoor returns with considerably high stakes worth Rs 550 crore riding on him after having been away for a long time from the cinema. Bollywood’s top producers Yash Raj Films and Dharma Production have high hopes from the actor as they have bet big-budget movies like Shamshera and Brahmastra respectively on him.
After the mega success of the 2018 film Sanju, Ranbir will be making his comeback on the silver screen with Shamshera. With the film, the actor is also trying to shed his chocolaty loverboy image as he takes up a rugged avatar of a dacoit in the upcoming period-action drama. He is playing the dual role of father and son in the film made on the budget of a whopping Rs 150 crore. Directed by Karan Malhotra , the film also stars Vaani Kapoor and Sanjay Dutt .
With Karan Johar ’s Brahmastra, Ranbir has taken another challenge to impress the audience with his new superhero avatar, Shiva. Directed by Ayan Mukerji , the film is an upcoming fantasy-adventure drama and the beginning of India’s first original universe – the Astraverse. It is a new original cinematic universe also starring Alia Bhatt , Amitabh Bachchan , Nagarjuna, and Mouni Roy in key roles. The film is high on VFX and costs Rs 300 crore or more. It is scheduled to hit screens on September 9 in five languages.
The risks are higher as expected since superhero movies have not worked in Bollywood. And also, Ranbir has always been liked for his certain characters in the movies over the years. So, bringing up the entire set of new characters in his back-to-back releases seems quite risky. Undoubtedly, he is one of the finest actors we have in the Hindi film industry. Having said that, the actor still needs to prove himself as a versatile actor. Well, it will be soon out whether the stakes gambled on Ranbir paid off or not.
