    Atcress Raveena Tandon performed her father Ravi Tandon's last rites in Mumbai today. He died in the early hours of the day after prolonged illness.

    Raveena Tandon lost her father Ravi Tandon in the wee hours of Friday morning due to prolonged illness. The late filmmaker whose loss is being mourned by the family and the industry was 86.

    Ravi Tandon’s funeral was held at the Santa Cruz crematorium at 4:30 on Friday evening and it was Raveena who performed his last rites at the funeral. The actress was seen crying the earthen pot customary to Hindu last rite rituals and leading the funeral procession.

    In Hindu customs the last rites are performed by the eldest son of the deceased or a male surviving member of the family but breaking patriarchal norms Raveena performed the ceremony dutifully as the first born. The actress has a brother Rajiv Tandon who was seen beside her at the funeral.

    Raveena was seen arriving at the crematorium in the ambulance that carried her father Ravi Tandon’s mortal remains and stepping out with the earthen pot and breaking a coconut following the instructions of the priest. Following this she led the funeral procession for the mukhagni.

    A family member confirmed the news of Ravi Tandon’s demise this afternoon and told PTI, “He was suffering from lung fibrosis from past few years. Today he passed away due to respiratory failure at 3.30 am.”

    The actress had posted a series of pictures on social media earlier in the day mourning his death. She had written in the caption, “You will always walk with me , I will always be you, I’m never letting go. Love you papa.”

    Ravi Tandon produced and directed several Hindi films between the 1960’s to 1980’s. His popular works included films like Khel Khel Mein, Anhonee, Nazrana, Majboor, Khud-daar and Zindagi .
