Ranbir Kapoor summoned by ED to understand betting business transactions in Mahadev app case
The actor has reportedly been summoned not as an accused but for questioning in the Mahadev money-laundering case.
Ranbir Kapoor landed in controversy after reports of him being summoned by the Enforcement Directorate in connection to the online betting case surfaced. The actor has been asked to appear in the agency’s office tomorrow, October 6, 2023. In the latest development, the actor has reportedly been summoned not as an accused but for questioning in the Mahadev money-laundering case.
For the unversed, the Shamshera actor promoted the online app Mahadev founded by Sourabh Chandraka and Ravi Uppal. He allegedly received compensation in return for endorsing and getting involved in promotional endeavours. Apart from him, Tiger Shroff, Sunny Leone, Neha Kakkar and many others have been embroiled in the case in which the agency has seized Rs 417 crore worth of proceeds of crime.
“Ranbir Kapoor has been summoned to understand the betting business transactions. At this point, he has not been summoned as accused. His questioning is important to know his knowledge about the money sources he received. It will possibly indicate the plans of the promoters and their association,” a source told News 18. It also added that the actor may not be part of the conspiracy but very important to understand the scam.
Meanwhile, Ranbir has also been in the news for his major transformations for his upcoming film, Animal. Directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, the film is about a troubled relationship between a father and a son. The gangster drama also has Rashmika Mandanna and Bobby Deol in pivotal roles. Backed by Bhushan Kumar and Murad Khetani, the film is set to arrive in theatres on December 1, 2023.
Besides it, Ranbir reportedly set to essay the role of Lord Ram in Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana. The film has Sai Pallavi as Sita and Yash as Raavan The first part of the trilogy film will go on the floors in February 2024 as per reports.
