When Ranbir Kapoor was considered a genius by his family

When speaking about his childhood, Ranbir said that he was never good at studying and realised early on that to become an actor, one doesn't necessarily need to be a good student. He added that after attending Bombay Scottish School, he went to H.R. College in Mumbai and got 54.3 % on his 10th board exams.

Recalling an incident when his mother, Neetu Singh, received his results, Ranbir said that he had never seen his family that happy. He added that his family thought he was a genius because no one else in the family had the 10th standard exams.

Ranbir revealed that his father, the late actor Rishi Kapoor, had a strict budget for him. He said that when he started assisting Sanjay Leela Bhansali on Black, his father took away his car and Ranbir had to travel by public transport. He also didn't receive any pocket money.

Ranbir said that growing up, he never looked his father in the eye, as he would always keep his head bent in front of him. Ranbir added that his father was a short-tempered man and that his parents would fight often; Ranbir would sit on the stairs and listen to them. Ranbir added that the night before his father died, the doctor had told them that that could be his last moments. Ranbir had a panic attack after he heard that.

Speaking about his college days, Ranbir revealed that he picked up the habit of smoking at the age of 17 and that he used to smoke till 2023. He added that he started feeling very unhealthy when he became a father to Raha and quit smoking as a result of that.

Talking about his work life, Ranbir said that after he came back from New York, he dated two very successful actresses and that became his identity. He was labelled a Casanova and a cheater for many years. The actor said that this used to bother him because it wasn't entirely true, as people don’t tell the whole story.

Speaking about his wife, actress Alia Bhatt, Ranbir said that the first time he met Alia was when she was 9 and he was 20. They had done a photoshoot together for a film that Sanjay Leela Bhansali wanted to make called Balika Vadhu, which was about child marriage. He added that he started living with Alia in 2018, when they were shooting for Brahmastra.
