The Tamil comedy-drama Raghu Thatha, starring Keerthy Suresh, has finalized its streaming debut date.

The latest Tamil comedy-drama Raghu Thatha, starring Keerthy Suresh, is set to make its streaming debut on ZEE5 on September 13. The film will be available for streaming less than a month after its theatrical release, sticking to the prevailing four-week theatrical window common in Tamil cinema.
This four-week theatrical window has become a standard practice in Tamil Nadu, though it is facing resistance from stakeholders within the industry. The Tamil Nadu Producers Council is reportedly exploring ways to reduce its dependency on revenue from streaming platforms, which have become a key source of non-theatrical income. However, with streaming platforms becoming more selective and driving hard bargains, producers are working towards extending the theatrical run of new films to eight weeks. Despite these efforts, the four-week window remains in place for now.
Written and directed by debutant Suman Kumar, Raghu Thatha hit cinemas on August 15, but faced tough competition from other major releases, including the big-budget period drama Thangalaan and the horror thriller Demonte Colony 2. With mixed reviews and overshadowed box office performance, the film's early shift to streaming comes as no surprise.
Raghu Thatha is a light-hearted period drama revolving around a woman's fight against Hindi imposition, a politically charged issue in Tamil Nadu. Suman Kumar brings a comedic twist to the story, balancing a serious subject with humour. While it struggled to make an impact at the box office, it remains to be seen whether Raghu Thatha can find a wider audience on the streaming platform.
Raghu Thatha is bankrolled by Homeble Films, the production house behind blockbusters like the KGF franchise, Kantara, and Salaar. This film marked their foray into Tamil cinema.
Besides Keerthy Suresh, Raghu Thatha also stars MS Bhaskar, Ravindra Vijay, Devadarshini, Jayakumar Parameswaran Pillai.
