Raayan, starring Dhanush, has finally made its highly anticipated streaming debut on Friday. This release follows the streaming debut of Kalki 2898 AD , starring Prabhas, making Raayan the second high-profile movie to arrive on streaming platforms this week.

Raayan is a landmark film for Dhanush, as it marks his 50th movie. To commemorate this milestone, Dhanush not only starred in the film but also took on the roles of writer and director, crafting a personal and compelling narrative. The film tells the story of four siblings abandoned at a young age, with Raayan, the eldest, dedicating his life to feeding and protecting his younger siblings.

After its theatrical release, Raayan was a massive box office success, providing a much-needed boost to the Tamil Nadu film industry, which had been experiencing a downturn. The film reportedly earned over Rs 150 crore worldwide, solidifying its place as one of the biggest hits in Dhanush's career.

The commercial success of Raayan was further highlighted when Kalanithi Maran of Sun Pictures presented Dhanush with two bonus cheques, acknowledging his dual contributions as both the director and lead actor.

While Dhanush's presence dominates the promotional material for Raayan, the film's success also rests on the strong performances of its ensemble cast, including S. J. Suryah, Selvaraghavan, Kalidas Jayaram, Sundeep Kishan, Prakash Raj, Dushara Vijayan, and Aparna Balamurali. The music, composed by Oscar-winner AR Rahman, also played a significant role in resonating with audiences.

"If Raayan was just about Raayan, it might have been a big dud because we have seen this story a million times. Dhanush knows it, and he cleverly overcomes the fatigue of familiarity in the narrative by simply giving more screen time to other characters," read a 3-star Desimartini review.
