Amid mounting debates and reactions over the ongoing #MeToo wave in Malayalam cinema, the industry witnessed a significant turn of events when the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (A.M.M.A.) committee was disbanded recently. This happened after the association's president, superstar Mohanlal, along with 17 other committee members, submitted their resignations. Actress Parvathy has now come forward to criticize Mohanlal’s decision to step down as president without taking accountability.

    Parvathy about Mohanlal's AMMA resignation

In an interview with journalist Barkha Dutt, Parvathy expressed her disappointment upon hearing the news of the collective resignation, describing her initial reaction as thinking, "How cowardly."

She said, "How cowardly of them to step away from a position where they are accountable to speak to the media. That’s an immediate cop-out. With this, the onus has once again fallen on women to carry the conversations and debates forward. It would have been amazing if they had shown even the intention to work with the state government and stakeholders to find a way forward."

The actress went on to criticize the executive committee for reinstating the accused in the 2017 actress sexual assault case, despite the case still being ongoing. She pointed out that this committee had previously denied the existence of such issues until the allegations against them surfaced.

Parvathy also expressed her frustration with the state government's careless statements, urging women to file FIRs and name those responsible. "Once again, the onus is placed on women to name and shame, and then bear the brunt of it. My questions have always been: What proof of justice can you provide to demand that we name and shame? After that, what happens to us—our careers, lives, legal fees, and mental health?" Parvathy questioned.

    Mohanlal resigns as AMMA president

Mohanlal’s resignation and AMMA committee’s dissolution

For the unversed, after the release of the long-delayed Hema Committee Report, sexual harassment allegations against several members of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (A.M.M.A) emerged. This led to the dissolution of the committee, with Mohanlal and 17 other key members resigning on 'moral grounds.' Among those accused of sexual misconduct were actors and members of AMMA such as Siddique, Jayasurya, Mukesh, Baburaj, Renjith, and Idavela Babu.
