Arnold Schwarzenegger, the enduring star of the Terminator series, has finally hung up his robotic boots, stating that his days of playing the iconic cyborg killer are well and truly over. Despite a career that spanned several decades, Schwarzenegger believes the world is ready to embrace a new theme when it comes to the Terminator series.
"The Franchise is Not Done. I'm Done."
Schwarzenegger, now in his vibrant mid-70s, has made it clear that his time as the eponymous Terminator has come to an end. "The franchise is not done. I'm done," Schwarzenegger openly admitted. However, the former bodybuilder does not view this as the end of the Terminator saga, but rather the need for a fresh take. "Someone has to come up with a great idea," he added.
The Austrian Oak credits the series as a key factor in his Hollywood success, acknowledging it's significance even beyond his breakout role in Conan the Barbarian. Schwarzenegger candidly shared his thoughts on the franchise's progression over the years.
From Sensation to Disappointment: Arnold's Take on Terminator's Legacy
“The first three movies were great,” he opined. However, his absence in the fourth installment, Salvation, due to his gubernatorial duties, and the underwhelming performances of the fifth (Genisys) and sixth (Dark Fate) movies, marked a downward turn. "They were just not well written," he criticized.
While his once-adversary-now-ally Sylvester Stallone continues to revisit his old roles, Schwarzenegger's priority appears to be reconnecting with old friends and exploring fresh opportunities.
